— A Café Shaped by Calm and Connection —

Located within a wellness center in Bangkok, this compact 59-square-meter café was conceived as an extension of the spa experience, creating a calming social space where visitors can pause, gather, and transition between moments of wellbeing. The design brings together the familiarity of a neighborhood café with the quiet, restorative atmosphere of a contemporary retreat.

A sculptural timber canopy defines the interior, flowing continuously across the ceiling before descending to frame the café counter and intimate seating areas. Its organic form softens the compact footprint and creates a strong sense of enclosure without physically dividing the space. Integrated lighting washes the curved surface with a warm glow, reinforcing the feeling of being sheltered beneath a natural canopy.

The material palette combines American walnut, woven rattan, hand-shaped ivory plaster, and bush-hammered stone to create an atmosphere that feels both tactile and refined. Deep brown marble and subtle brass accents introduce richness, while handcrafted surfaces retain the warmth and imperfection associated with natural materials.

At the center, the café counter functions as both a service point and a social anchor. Custom banquette seating, display shelving, and compact standing tables are carefully integrated around it to maximize functionality within the limited area. Surrounded by greenery, the café becomes a sensory retreat where architecture, landscape, light, and material work together to support a slower and more restorative experience.
